CCE Department Signature Programme
Values in Action (VIA)
Values in Action is the basis of developing our students as socially responsible citizens. This is achieved through their ownership to the community they live in. At Horizon, VIA is made actionable through I-LEAD+ and various programmes. Students are provided with enriched learning experiences to encourage them to continue making a difference to others’ lives and make our home, Singapore, a better place to live in. As leaders for others, they put into practice how they can impact the home, school and community through their 6 years of journey in Horizon.

I’m a Good Helper |
In this project, students learn about empathy through helping out with household chores at home. They will learn to do simple household chores in school which will help them contribute more effectively at home. By putting themselves in others' shoes and exploring ways to help their family members, students learn to embody the value of compassion. |
Primary 2 |
I’m a Caring Friend |
Students show kindness and compassion by understanding their friends. As a 'Secret Care Friend', students will learn to empathise and explicitly show their concern for their friends through actions and words. Hence, creating a positive classroom environment for everyone. |

Primary 3 |
Let’s Clean Together |
Students learn the importance of maintaining a clean environment and how this could have a positive impact on others. They collaborate with their peers and synergise to achieve the common objective of cleaning up a classroom while influencing their peers. Through this project, students also develop civic literacy skills as they become more aware of the roles they play in the school. |
Primary 4 |
Let’s Play Together |
Students learn about the different traditional games seen in Singapore. By seeking first to understand, students discuss and select a game, then put themselves in the shoes of the players and design rules, posters, etc with the aim of teaching their peers and others how to play the game at a school event where their friends from all levels come together. On the actual day, students set up booths, teach and encourage others to play together. |

Children for Others – Food Donation Drive |
Students learn to empathise with the challenges faced by underprivileged families in the community and work together to start a food donation drive in the school to help them. They display values of compassion and excellence as they work in teams collaboratively to encourage their peers in the school to take part in this meaningful campaign. This project also develops students’ cross-cultural literacy and civic literacy skills as they learn more about people from different backgrounds and explore ways to make a meaningful contribution to those in need. |
Primary 6 |
Children for Others – Grow, Share, Care |
Building on what the students have learnt in Primary 5, they now apply technology to further contribute to meet the needs of the underprivileged families in the Punggol Community. Students will understand how Singapore makes use of technology to overcome constraints and continue to aim to be self sufficient in growing our own vegetables. Students will have hands-on experience of planting and harvesting the vegetables, and presenting them to the underprivileged families. 21st Century Competencies such as Cross Cultural Literacy, Civic Literacy, Critical and Inventive Thinking will be further enhanced and developed through this project. |
